How to remove skin tags?
How to remove skin tags Skin tags? Are soft, small skin-coloured growths, often on a stalk, that project from the skin’s surface. Skin tags are extremely common and, whilst sometimes annoying, they are not dangerous in any way. Skin tags generally range from a few millimetres to 5cm in diameter. They can appear alone or in a group and are usually located on the eyelids, neck, armpits, in the groin area or beneath the breasts.
Skin tags most commonly occur in middle age and you are more likely to develop them if your parents had them as they are very often the result of genes and, therefore, hereditary. Skin tags are also more prevalent in those with diabetes or who are overweight or obese – conditions that are commonly found together – as they can be the result of friction when skin rubs against skin. This is a side effect of being overweight and why the skin tags often increase in size as the friction continues. As we have said, skin tags are harmless but can become irritated if located in areas where clothing or jewellery rub against them. Skin tags can also be quite unsightly, especially when found in large numbers in one area or if they are on the larger end of the spectrum.
If you decide that you would like to have one or several of your skin tags removed then we can formulate a suitable treatment plan for you. It will be a quick and painless treatment that will give you great results.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Before the treatment
Your doctor will assess your skin tags and advise whether further investigation (histology) is required. This would only be the case if the skin tags were not actually skin tags but were, in fact, moles. In these instances the necessary arrangements will be made and, very occasionally, patients are referred in order to confirm that there are no contraindications. We would also advise patients to consult their GPs for advice prior to booking a consultation if there is any suspicion that the skin tags may be moles..
During the treatment
Your doctor will mark the skin tags to be removed and local anaesthesia will be given at each site. The laser will then be used to cauterise each skin tag. The procedure will be quick and comfortable.
After the treatment
There is no recovery time and you may leave the clinic when you are ready. However, the treated areas will look ‘scabby’ and darker than the surrounding skin. The initial scabs will fall off in 5-7 days, after which second scabs will form and fall off in the next 14 days. After initial healing the appearance of the treated areas will improve and a very light mark, if any, may be left behind.
There are no stitches involved and chances of any scarring are negligible.
