AFTER the treatment

There is no recovery time required, and you may leave the clinic as soon as you feel ready. The treated area(s) will form a scab to facilitate the healing process, which typically falls off within 5-7 days, depending on the size of the mole. For larger moles, a second scab may form, which will usually fall off within the next 14 days. Very happy with the treatment and whole experience to remove a cyst on my neck which had been there for some time. Dr Bodhi clearly explained the procedure, which was painless and gave clear advice for the after care, having received 3 stitches. Very pleased with the end result and would highly recommend.

I have to add my 5 star review to the lot here. I had a cyst on the side of my head removed a month ago by Dr Bodhi (Dr Silva was also around) who provided an exceptional care from the first message all the way until the last appointment. The cyst was a bit inflamed so it took quite a while to get rid off on the day, that did not stop Dr Bodhi to do an excellent job and there is now very little marks left which is quite important seen the area. Fair price and everyone I came across was very friendly and welcoming.

How does it compare to alternative removal or treatment methods?

Laser Mole Removal Treatment

Best for: Small to medium-sized moles, flat or raised, pigmented moles, cosmetic concerns

How it works:

A focused beam of light targets and breaks down mole pigment or tissue, allowing the body to naturally absorb or shed it over time. Most sessions are quick and comfortable, with minimal discomfort.

Benefits:

  • Non-invasive – no cutting or stitches

  • Minimal to no scarring

  • Short recovery time

  • Same-day treatment possible

  • Ideal for facial areas or visible skin

Limitations:

  • Not always suitable for very large or deeply rooted moles or birthmarks (although these can sometimes be treated)
  • Not suitable for changing moles or those you have concerns about, as histology (biopsy) cannot be performed unless the mole is surgically excised first

Surgical Excision

Best for: Larger or deeper moles, and suspicious moles that require biopsy.

How it works:
The mole is surgically cut out under local anaesthetic. Stitches are usually required, and healing can take 2 to 3 weeks. The removed tissue is sent for histological (laboratory) analysis to check for any abnormalities.

Benefits:

  • Allows histopathology for accurate diagnosis

  • Suitable for irregular or potentially cancerous lesions

Limitations:

  • Will leave a visible scar and removes more surrounding tissue than laser treatment

  • Longer recovery time

  • Requires wound care and a follow-up appointment for stitch removal

Shave Excision

Best for: Raised moles

How it works:
The mole is shaved off at skin level using a surgical blade under local anaesthetic.

Benefits:

  • Less invasive than full excision

  • Minimal downtime

Limitations:

  • Risk of mole regrowth

  • Not suitable for flat or pigmented moles

Frequently asked questions

Laser mole removal is highly effective at eliminating the visible mole by targeting and breaking down the pigment or tissue. Unlike shave excisions, laser treatment destroys the mole down to its base, so in the vast majority of cases, the mole does not grow back. For this reason, the risk of mole recurrence is minimal to negligible.

When performed by an experienced clinician on suitable moles, laser removal offers a very low risk of the mole returning. In our 15+ years of experience, we rarely see this happen.

Anyone can safely have a mole removed with laser treatment. However, if your mole has recently changed in size, shape, colour, or sensation,  or if you have a personal or family history of skin cancer,  it’s important to have it assessed by your GP or dermatologist first.

Laser mole removal is suitable for harmless moles, especially when removed for cosmetic or convenience reasons. The NHS typically only removes moles if there is a medical concern, so cosmetic mole removal is only offered privately.

Laser mole removal is a quick procedure. Treating a single mole usually takes just a few minutes. However, your initial consultation will take around 30 minutes, as it includes a full assessment of the mole, discussion of treatment options, and a review of your medical history to ensure laser removal is appropriate for you.

Yes, laser mole removal can treat a wide variety of moles, including flat, slightly raised, and pigmented ones. During your consultation, we will assess the mole’s size, depth, and appearance to determine if laser treatment is suitable. In some cases, very large, deeply rooted, or unusual-looking moles may require alternative treatment such as surgical excision. We may also recommend that you have the mole assessed by your GP or a dermatologist before considering cosmetic removal.

mole types on skin flat raised moles and skin tags

In most cases, it is not possible to send the mole for histology after laser removal because the tissue is destroyed during the process. If you have any concerns about your mole, such as recent changes in size, shape, colour or sensation, or if it has been bleeding or changing in appearance, we recommend having it assessed by your GP or a dermatologist before considering cosmetic removal.

Laser mole removal is not painful. Before the procedure starts, a local anaesthetic is applied to numb the area around the mole. This means you won’t feel any discomfort during the treatment.

Once the area is numb, the laser gently removes the mole with minimal effect on the surrounding skin. The procedure is quick and non-invasive, with little to no downtime.

Our experienced, doctor-led team will guide you through each step and ensure you feel comfortable and cared for. After your treatment, we’ll provide clear aftercare instructions to help your skin heal smoothly and achieve the best possible results.

Laser mole removal typically results in minimal scarring. The advanced laser technology targets only the mole tissue, leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. Most patients experience little to no visible scarring once the area is fully healed. Any slight mark that may appear usually fades over time. Proper aftercare, including avoiding sun exposure and following healing instructions, can further minimise the risk of scarring. When compared to other removal methods, laser treatment is often associated with a faster recovery and a more cosmetically pleasing outcome.

Mole Removal Aftercare
Supporting the Best Possible Healing

Proper aftercare is essential to ensure optimal healing and to minimise the risk of scarring or infection after mole removal. At Perfect Image Consultants, we provide personalised guidance to help you care for your skin following your procedure.

General Aftercare Guidelines

  • Keep the Area Clean and Dry: Use mild soap and lukewarm water. Gently pat dry and avoid rubbing.

  • Do Not Pick or Scratch: Allow any scabs to heal and fall off naturally to prevent scarring.

  • Protect from Sunlight: Once healed, use SPF 30+ daily to prevent pigmentation changes.

  • Avoid Makeup or Harsh Products: Allow the skin to fully heal before applying active skincare or cosmetics to the area.

  • Monitor for Infection: Contact us if you notice swelling, redness, pus, or prolonged discomfort.

Typical Healing Time

  • Laser Removal: Mild redness or scabbing usually lasts 5 to 10 days. Full recovery within 2 to 3 weeks.

  • Excision Methods: Healing can take 10 to 21 days. This method often involves stitches and larger scars.

We don’t usually need to see you for follow-ups, but if you have any questions or concerns after your treatment, we’ll gladly arrange the right follow-up to support you.
