Lumps and Bumps (Lipoma) Removal Treatment
What are lipomas?
Many people have lumps and bump on their body, these bumps are called Lipomas.
Lipomas are a collection of fat cells which come together to form a fatty lump under the skin. These lumps of fat are benign and non cancerous, in majority of cases they are not painful of harmful. Lipomas can form anywhere on the body.
Can Lipomas be removed?
In most cases lipomas can be removed easily, some lipomas if large or deep can be more challenging to be removed. Lipoma removal is generally considered to be a cometic procedure, therefore your GP might not offer you lipoma removal on the NHS. However, we recommend all our patients to visit their gp o confirm that the lump is a lipoma and that the NHS will not remove it before they come in for a consulation with us.
what to expect
Before the Lipoma removal treatment
Once you have been to your gp, and they have agrees to have your lipoma removed privately, we will see you for a consulation and assess you.
Your doctor will assess your areas of concern and advise whether further investigation is required. If so, the necessary arrangements will be made and occasionally patients are referred in order to confirm that there are no contraindications.
Once you and the doctor have decided on the lipoma removal treatment it would be a good opportunity to discuss your skin care after lipoma removal, to reduce any scarring as much as possible.
During the treatment
Your doctor will mark the lesion(s) to be removed and the procedure will begin – surigcal excision under local anaesthetic. This will take around an hour from start to finish. .
After the treatment
After the procedure you may go home and rest, please do not engage in any physical activites until the practitioner has said it is safe to do so
It is important to note, there may be some scarring and stitched may be involved. If stitches are involved you will have to book in for a follow to have them removed as required by your practitioner. Please note you will require follows regardless to whether you have had stitches.
Lipoma Removal Cost
Once you have seen our doctor, he will assess your lipoma and determine a price depending on the size and site of the lipoma. It will also be determined whether your lipoma will need further investigation to confirm it is a lipoma or whether it requires histology.
If it is a Lipoma, you can have the lipoma removal treatment on the same day as your consultation if both you and the doctor are happy to proceed.
Please note when booking your consultation, there will be a £20 booking fee. This will need to be paid prior to your consultation and is redeemable of your treatments.
